Fall Recipes
Fall flavors are some of my favorites. It's the start of comfort food season and there are so many wonderful ingredients to make use of, including apples, pumpkin, pear and a huge array of root vegetables.
Here are just a few highlights:
Perfect pumpkin recipes
I may not have grown up with pumpkin - in fact you couldn't even find it in the UK when I was a child, but it is definitely something I have happily adopted. It is an incredibly versatile and economical vegetable with so many uses.
You'll find classics like pumpkin pie from scratch, as well as twists like pumpkin souffle. And did you know it's also used in world cuisine? Try something a little different like Taiwanese pumpkin rice noodles, kaddo bowrani (Afghan pumpkin) and pumpkin ravioli (tortelli di zucca).
Amazing apple recipes
We are huge apple fans in our family and it's become an annual tradition to go apple picking. We get through plenty as they are, but they are also perfect in so many recipes.
For the sweet tooth, there's everything from apple crepes to apple snack cake. On the savory side, try some apple and cheddar cheese Yorkshire pudding or apple stuffing crusted pork chops. Then try an apple banana smoothie or spiked mulled apple cider to drink alongside.
Super squash recipes
Pumpkin gets a lot of the glory, but squash has so much to offer as well. And not just the better known butternut, though I do love some butternut squash risotto and grilled butternut squash with chimichurri, amongst other things.
Try some lesser-known gems like buttercup, simple prepared as maple roasted buttercup squash, or delicata made into delicata squash soup.
There are so many delicious ideas to try!
