This cake uses common ingredients, including flour, sugar, butter, eggs, apples and spices.
Cream together the butter and sugar then add the egg. Separately mix the dry ingredients then combine.
Peel and core the apple then cut the apple into small bite sized pieces. Then add these to the batter along with the dates.
It's best to line the tin to make it easier to remove after baking. Smooth the top down so it's an even thickness.
Bake until an even brown. Also, test the middle with a skewer - it should come out clean. If it's wet with batter, bake a little longer.
Perfect on it's own or with a cup of coffee or tea!
